SOCKEYE SALMON TRIPS JULY 15-AUGUST 15 In 2011, on July 16th, 210,000 sockeye salmon entered the Kenai and continued until over ONE MILLION gushed past happy anglers awaiting their arrival. Each year this return begins around the 15th of July and ends around the 15th of August. Although 2011 was a record year, the Kenai River is specially managed to insure large numbers returning every year. Although reds can be fished on your own from many crowded public access points, they are most enjoyable when targeted from our boats where hot spots can be located. We provide all rods and tackle and licensed guide as we move to best locations by boat. Customers provide their own waders and this year my clients purchased quality boots in town at Trustworthy Hardware and Fishing for $25. Your catch is expertly filleted on a sanitary table and bagged for your convenience. Customers wanting this trip should be capable of hopping in and out of the boat and standing knee deep in the Kenai for prolonged periods. By law, to preserve habitat, standing on the bank is prohibited. If you are fishing Kings on the allowable days of Tuesday-Saturday, Sunday and Monday are good days for a sockeye trip, although any day is available. If you like a hands on fishing experience for the best tasting, hardest fighting fish that is also most abundant, this is the trip for you.
